To most of us – believers and non-believers alike – the possibility of a perfect God co-existing with the kinds of evil that we see calls out for explanation. It is unsurprising, therefore, that the belief that God must have justifying reasons for allowing all the evil that we see has been a perennial feature of theistic thought. Recently, however, a growing number of authors have argued that the existence of a perfect God is compatible with the existence of gratuitous (...) evil. Given powerful, millenia-long sensibilities about power and love and justice, it isn’t hard to find that suggestion simply incredible. Nonetheless, in this paper I will argue that the most prominent theistic alternatives to what has seemed incredible to most of us throughout most of history are themselves patently unacceptable for the theist as well. On any of the most widely accepted accounts of how God could have justifying reasons for permitting some evils, God’s existence means that we have justifying reasons for perpetrating and allowing every evil that we see. That's hard to swallow too. If I’m right about all of this, then two competing outcomes seem to present themselves as a possible result. On the one hand, for the theist, the apparently outrageous suggestion that the existence of a perfect God is compatible with gratuitous evil no longer looks like it faces a formidable, hard-to-resist alternative. On the other hand, some like me might think that my arguments go no distance at all towards dispelling the incredibility of the gratuitous evil nouvelle vague. On this line, theism may seem now to be between the rock and the hard place: it seems hard to make sense of the existence of a perfect God whether or not He has justifying reasons for allowing all the evil that we see. Paul Silva has recently argued that doxastic justification does not have a basing requirement. An important part of his argument depends on the assumption that doxastic and moral permissibility have a parallel structure. I here reply to Silva's argument by challenging this assumption. I claim that moral permissibility is an agential notion, while doxastic permissibility is not. I then briefly explore the nature of these notions and briefly consider their implications for praise and blame.

One of the few points of agreement between most theists and non-theists working on the problem of evil is that the existence of a perfect God is incompatible with the existence of pointless evil. In a series of influential papers, however, Peter van Inwagen has argued that careful attention to the reasoning behind this claim reveals fatal difficulties related to the Sorites Paradox. In this paper, I explain van Inwagen’s appeal to sorites reasoning, distinguish between two different arguments in his (...) work, and argue that they both commit the same so-far-unnoticed mistake. Freud propôs uma teoria da personalidade a partir do estabelecimento da psicanálise. Nosso objetivo é percorrer alguns de seus primeiros textos, os quais foram escritos em conjunto com Breuer, buscando delimitar o que Freud compreendeu a respeito de alterações da personalidade, tal como a múltipla personalidade. Este fenômeno ganhou um importante destaque no século XIX, gerando discussões no campo da psicologia e da filosofia, uma vez que implicava ruptura da unidade da personalidade. Freud, por sua vez, ofereceu uma interpretação original (...) de tais alterações à luz de suas investigações sobre a histeria. Para explicar os desdobramentos da personalidade, Freud focou numa teoria da defesa, colocando o recalque (_Verdrängung_) como um mecanismo modelo para compreender a personalidade e suas patologias. We review here some recent data about glucose‐6‐phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD), the first and key regulatory enzyme of the pentose phosphate pathway. New evidence has been presented to suggest that malaria is a selective agent for G6PD deficiency, which is the most common enzymopathy in man, and that G6PD deficiency, generally considered to be a mild and benign condition, is significantly disadvantageous in certain environmental conditions. At the molecular level, the enzyme structure has recently been elucidated and mechanisms regulating G6PD gene (...) expression have been determined. A G6PD knock‐out mutation introduced in mouse cells makes them exquisitely sensitive to oxidative stress, indicating that this ubiquitous metabolic enzyme has a major role in the defence against oxidative stress, even in eukaryotic nucleated cells, which have several alternative routes for providing the same protection. Because of the high prevalence of G6PD deficiency in many populations, it is expected that these findings will prompt further studies to ascertain the putative role of G6PD deficiency in conditions such as carcinogenesis and ageing. In 1987, the Brundtland Commission urged nations to improve present conditions without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their needs. Against the background of this appeal for sustainable development, there is a call for intergenerational justice, under a sufficientarian framework. Despite their strong relation, we claim that, to some degree, intergenerational sufficientarianism disregards relevant sustainability notions. This neglect undermines intergenerational sufficientarianism in the context of sustainability, here operationalized as sustainable development. In response, we propose the concept of irreplaceable (...) goods as a necessary bridge between the two frameworks. Simultaneously, we stress the need for scholars to consider sufficientarianism as a valid alternative to egalitarianism for achieving resource justice. To harmonize intergenerational sufficientarianism and sustainability, we firstly delineate sustainability theoretical notions that influence fair distributive futures. Secondly, we incorporate those sustainability constraints into the conceptual background of intergenerational sufficientarianism. We also establish the concept of irreplaceable goods as a pivot and anchor for further theoretical development on the sufficient well-being of future generations. Finally, we discuss the implications of this concept in terms of expenditure and investment by contemporary people. With the proposed adjustments, we advocate that intergenerational sufficientarianism is a robust framework to deliver just futures. (shrink)

O problema envolvendo o estatuto ontológico das entidades inobserváveis postuladas pelas teorias científicas é um dos mais centrais em filosofia da ciência. O objetivo deste pequeno artigo é o de oferecer um mapa dos posicionamentos mais recentes, sem a ambição de aprofundá-los. O enfoque será nos principais argumentos a favor e contra a capacidade de a ciência descrever corretamente a realidade natural inobservável. Mais especificamente, exporei o argumento do sucesso para o realismo e uma variação do mesmo, bem como as (...) críticas ao referido argumento, tais como a metaindução pessimista, a subdeterminação das teorias pela evidência e uma abordagem darwinista, que evita a ideia de sucesso. Concluirei apresentando como tais argumentos exigiram uma seletividade na abordagem realista, hoje concentrada em três ramos cujos nomes estão de acordo com os elementos sobre os quais cada filosofia recomenda ser realista: realismo explanacionista, realismo de entidades e realismo estrutural. Por uma questão de enfoque, darei apenas uma descrição resumida de cada ramo de realismo citado. (shrink)

O objetivo é analisar algumas interpretações conexas que giram em torno da tensão entre duas concepções da díke em Édipo Rei. Como as tragédias ocupavam um papel privilegiado na pólis ateniense, pode-se dizer que as exibições e festividades trágicas eram uma verdadeira instituição política. Não por acaso se pode afirmar que as peças apontavam para um conflito entre os valores aristocráticos tradicionais e a nova ordem democrática. Tal tensão pode ser evidenciada na investigação promovida por Édipo que se manifesta em (...) duas formas de justiça, uma de origem divina e outra, humana. Para tanto, este texto, em um primeiro momento, descreve a relação entre tragédia e pólis; após essa introdução, assinala o conflito que se desenhava na democracia e que se reflete nas tragédias; por fim, examina a possível articulação racional entre a díke tradicional e sua contrapartida humana. No presente trabalho procurarei expor dois desafios antirrealistas ancorados na história da ciência, que Stanford apelidou respectivamente de ‘antiga’ e ‘nova indução pessimista’. Argumentarei que existe uma solução realista já disponível a ambos os desafios pessimistas: o realismo experimental, inicialmente proposto por Hacking e Cartwritght, segundo o qual é possível comprometer-se com entidades teóricas com as quais desenvolvemos interações causais e com as quais produzimos fenômenos controlados, sem que tal compromisso se estenda às teorias mesmas. Tomarei como parâmetro não propriamente (...) os argumentos de Hacking e Cartwright que sofrem inúmeras críticas, mas uma formulação sofisticada do realismo experimental proposta por Egg. (shrink)

The development of neuropsychological assessment methods using virtual reality (VR) is a valid and promising option for the detection of cognitive impairment in the older people, focusing on activities composed of tasks of multiple demands. This study verified the association of age, schooling, and general cognitive status on the performance of neurologically healthy older adults in ECO-VR, a virtual reality task of multiple demands for neuropsychological assessment. A total of 111 older adults answered a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Mini Mental State (...) Examination, the Vocabulary subtest of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Adults (third edition), and the ECO-VR. Correlation analyses, multiple linear regression, and comparisons between groups (effects by age and schooling groups) were used to evaluate the results. The ECO-VR total score was significantly associated with age, years of education, MMSE, and Vocabulary subtest. The linear regression models identified that age was the main predictor for total score and rule breaking of ECO-VR. According to the univariate analysis, it was identified the main effect of age group and schooling group in the total ECO-VR score, but there was no interaction effect. The results are discussed in order to understand the role of sociodemographic characteristics in the performance of older adults in a virtual reality task of multiple demands. Cet article est destiné à analyser la procédure éthique proposée par Hans Jonas sous le distique de l’heuristique de la crainte. Pour ce faire, on analysera le rôle que cette notion joue en tant qu’alternative à l’utopisme de la technique. Elle ne paralyse pas l’action mais se présente comme la recherche d’une orientation morale de l’action en vue du bien. En tant qu’alternative au formalisme des éthiques traditionnelles, l’heuristique de la crainte sera abordée à partir de trois dimensions : la (...) compétence d’imaginer, la faculté de ressentir et la capacité de diriger éthiquement l’action. Humans accumulate porphyrins in the body mostly during the course of porphyrias, diseases caused by defects in the enzymes of the heme biosynthesis pathway and that produce acute attacks, skin lesions and liver cancer. In contrast, some wild mammals and birds are adapted to accumulate porphyrins without injurious consequences. Here we propose viewing such physiological adaptations as potential solutions to human porphyrias, and suggest certain wild animals as models. Given the enzymatic activity and/or the patterns of porphyrin excretion and accumulation, (...) the fox squirrel, the great bustard and the Eurasian eagle owl may constitute overlooked models for different porphyrias. The Harderian gland of rodents, where large amounts of porphyrins are synthesized, presents an underexplored potential for understanding the carcinogenic/toxic effect of porphyrin accumulation. Investigating how these animals avoid porphyrin pathogenicity may complement the use of laboratory models for porphyrias and provide new insights into the treatment of these disorders. (shrink)

Este trabalho tem como objetivo principal chamar a atenção para algumas questões que se inauguram a partir de uma reflexão sobre as práticas de uso de objetos extremamente presentes na vida social atual a saber, os telefones celulares. O intuito é descrever e analisar alguns dos fenômenos imbricados nas novas possibilidades de se conceber e interpretar práticas e relações sociais e, ao mesmo tempo, trazer à tona reflexões sobre os sujeitos que se constroem em meio a este processo enquanto sujeitos (...) conectados e dependentes da conexão.As reflexões aqui apresentadas têm cunho ensaístico e pretendem dar conta de questões como a constituição de novas cartografias corporais, que não excluem o uso e “acoplamento” dos celulares aos corpos, ao mesmo tempo em que se buscará explicar este processo de dependência e sujeição aos aparelhos enquanto resultado do espraiamento da subjetividade pelos fluxos de uma cadeia de conectividade da qual celulares e todos nós, enquanto usuários, fazemos parte.Espera-se demonstrar como toda esta rede não escapa aos eixos do mercado sendo os celulares elementos agenciadores deste processo à medida em que impactam e reconfiguram o regime de gestão das vidas na contemporaneidade, abrindo ensejo para se pensar sobre as formas de controle e os regimes de subjetivação que entram em cena. Fato este que destaca a necessidade de um aprofundamento do debate sobre os pontos de tensão que se apresentam num momento em que os campos de experiência e ação cotidianas parecem inteiramente capturados de modo a envolver-nos no processo de reprodução do capital. One of the key debates in the literature on small and medium enterprises and corporate social responsibility in developing countries has to do with the role that local industrial districts, or so-called industrial clusters, play in the promotion of CSR in those countries. While there is now an embryonic literature on this subject, we lack systematic, integrated analytical frameworks that can improve our understanding of the role that governance of clusters play in addressing CSR concerns in SMEs in developing countries. (...) This article develops such a conceptual framework drawing on the literatures on cluster governance, CSR, SMEs, and environmental management as they relate to the developing countries. The authors argue that environmental improvements in SME clusters can be achieved through three basic types of cluster governance: legal enforcement, supply chain pressure, and voluntary engagement in CSR. The proposed framework is an attempt to show how each type of cluster governance is likely to induce different responses in cluster-based SMEs. These responses are related to stages of CSR in which SMEs engage, the barriers to EM they face, the types of EM practices they use, the climate change strategy types they use, and the kinds of benefits that accrue to SMEs from engagement in CSR. The authors put foward a framework that can be useful for both academics and practitioners as they seek to reflect on the interconnectedness of these themes from a research, policy, and practice perspective. We present in this article a discussion about gestures produced from the childhood entry in the interface with the experience of school time. It is a discussion woven inside the center for studies and research in education in particular, the times group of the faculty of education of the federal university of Juiz de Fora/MG. Throughout history, time has been discussed in various ways and still is, as well as childhood, conceptually constructed as a result of social, political, religious, and (...) cultural influences. In the attempt to "start thinking", we ask ourselves about what theoretical formulations have been based on childhood at the interface with school time in the field of education? We defend the central thesis that childhood, in a western cut, has been presented in productions still as social time. It is a recent movement to consider childhood as an event, experience, as opposed to the idea of childhood as the stage of life. As a result, considering infancy related to the tension between social time and time as intensity of the present, implies the need for pedagogical gestures that think this tension and, thus, consider the children of the current, narrowing their relations with the school, with knowledge and with life. To enlighten the issues sewn from our concerns, we chose authors such as Agamben, Leal, Bakhtin/Volochinov, Kohan, Vieira, Bento and Meneghel, Kramer, Borba, who focused on childhood and education. In order to problematize the time category, we dialogued with St. Augustine, Oliveira, Marques C. and Marques L, Skliar. The reading of our interlocutors and our listening with/to the school could subsidize the thought that we can invent ways not only imagined as possible with the perspective of reflecting time, childhood, experience and school on other bases. The interrogation, not the conviction, enables the sense of knowledge in the materiality of our practices, produced inside/outside the university. These are underprivileged subjects in curriculum matrices and disciplines that address the issue of children, their childhoods and temporalities. (shrink)

I show that propositional intuitionistic logic is complete with respect to an adaptation of Dummett’s pragmatist justification procedure. In particular, given a pragmatist justification of an argument, I show how to obtain a natural deduction derivation of the conclusion of the argument from, at most, the same assumptions.

O presente trabalho tem como objetivo refletir sobre a educação escolar no sistema prisional contemporâneo. Destacando os marcos legais e documentos oficiais que expressam e orientam o direito à educação nestes espaços não formais. Pensar a educação neste contexto é destacar a importância da educação para o processo transformador do ser humano, ou seja, a educação tem a função de promover a reintegração social do sujeito em situação de privação de liberdade. Para o desenvolvimento deste trabalho temos como abordagem qualitativa, (...) com o suporte das pesquisas bibliográfica e documental. Portanto, promover a acessibilidade da pessoa privada de liberdade, é promover não só a reintegração social via a educação, como promover o exercício da cidadania independente do fato julgado. Nestes termos, a educação escolar no sistema prisional tem sido um desafio para a reintegração social da pessoa privada de liberdade na contemporaneidade. (shrink)

Abordar a lei 10.639/03 no espaço escolar se configura como questão central nesta produção textual. Para tal, apresentamos ao leitor um relato de experiência que ocorreu em uma escola pública, com uma turma de 4° ano do Ensino Fundamental I, precisamente no bairro do Pau Miúdo, Salvador, Bahia. Realizamos uma série de atividades pedagógicas com intencionalidades bem demarcadas em relação aspectos étnicos raciais e, sobretudo, saber o que pensam as crianças acerca destas questões. Acreditamos, mesmo antes desta prática, que a ancestralidade africana e afrobrasileira precisa ser inserida nos currículos da Educação Básica como estratégia de realimentar as alteridades produtoras do chão da escola. The emerging field of lipidomics has identified lipids as key players in disease physiology. Their physicochemical diversity allows precise control of cell structure and signaling events through modulation of membrane properties and trafficking of proteins. As such, lipids are important regulators of brain function and have been implicated in neurodegenerative and mood disorders. Importantly, environmental chronic stress has been associated with anxiety and depression and its exposure in rodents has been extensively used as a model to study these diseases. With (...) the accessibility to modern mass‐spectrometry lipidomic platforms, it is now possible to snapshot the extensively interconnected lipid network. Here, we review the fundamentals of lipid biology and outline a framework for the interpretation of lipidomic studies as a new approach to study brain pathophysiology. Thus, lipid profiling provides an exciting avenue for the identification of disease signatures with important implications for diagnosis and treatment of mood disorders. (shrink)

Introdução a Levinas a partir da discussão sobre a problemática da subjetividade.

O objetivo geral desse artigo consiste em analisar a obra “ O nascimento da tragédia”, escrita por Friedrich Nietzsche em 1872, destacando sua compreensão sobre a cultura. Nela, foram tecidas análises iniciais sobre a cultura grega conceituando-se o papel do apolíneo e do dionisíaco como impulsos estéticos e cósmicos que originavam a tragédia; de Eurípedes e Sócrates como causadores de sua destruição devido à racionalidade intrínseca a um novo juízo artístico. Assim, as criações modernas emergiam constituídas por valores socráticos que (...) buscavam a verdade e não mais a experiência trágica. Como consequência, tem-se a decadência da cultura do homem grego e também do alemão do século XIX. Sua salvação dependeria da construção de uma nova cultura autêntica capaz de retornar a arte trágica grega, pois o filósofo a compreendida como justificação estética da existência, ilustrando a vida e elaborando-a a partir de diferentes máscaras. Dentre as soluções propostas, Nietzsche cita obra de Wagner como possibilidade de reavivamento dos impulsos apolíneo e dionisíaco por meio da música que daria novos sentidos a cultura ao assumir seu papel de renovação. Observa-se que o ponto essencial tratado nesta obra é que a única justificativa para a existência é a estética. (shrink)

Este estudo objetiva analisar o primeiro capítulo do tratado III, 5 [50], Sobre o amor, no qual Plotino discorre acerca do amor entendido como estado da alma (páthos). O amor estado da alma é característico do vivente, ou seja, o composto alma e corpo, e portanto, é o amor do homem no mundo sensível. Apresenta-se sob duas formas, puro e misto. O primeiro é aquele que deseja a beleza, o segundo deseja a beleza e a eternidade. Ao explicar cada uma (...) das formas deste amor, Plotino envereda por temas fundamentais à sua filosofia, tais como o belo, a contemplação, além da própria definição de homem. (shrink)

Trata-se de revisitar a formulação habermasiana do universalismo moral de forma a evitar as aporias do naturalismo e do relativismo cultural, segundo uma perspectiva pragmáticoformal capaz de fazer jus ao complexo fenômeno da religião em um mundo pós-secular pluralista, onde crentes, ateus e agnósticos podem coexistir e participar ativamente da construção de uma sociedade mais justa e tolerante.

O artigo procura mostrar em que sentido a democracia deliberativa proposta pelateoria discursiva de Jürgen Habermas dá conta do problema dos reducionismos econômicose juridificantes da mundialização ou globalização, entendida como uma colonização técnico-sistêmica do mundo da vida. Recorrendo a sua concepção de um ethos democráticotransnacional embasado na soberania popular, a teoria habermasiana logra resgatar ocaráter normativo da mundialização através da irredutibilidade de valores humanos como aliberdade, a dignidade e os direitos humanos, inerentes às mais diferentes e incompatíveisautocompreensões de mundos da (...) vida. RESUMO O presente artigo pretende analisar a relação entre o pensamento de Nietzsche e o movimento trans-humanista, cuja força teórica alargou-se durante as primeiras décadas do novo milênio, amparada na crescente história de êxitos da biotecnologia. Pretende-se apresentar uma posição crítica à apropriação que o trans-humanismo vem fazendo do pensamento do autor de "Assim falou Zaratustra". O foco da análise é o programa de autossuperação do homem, que será analisado a partir de três eixos centrais: a ideia de natureza e (...) de liberdade; o problema dos valores; e a questão do aperfeiçoamento promovido pela bioengenharia e suas consequências para o destino do homem. Presume-se, assim, não dar conta da amplitude e complexidade da temática, mas oferecer pistas para enfrentar a questão sob o viés da relação de continuidade entre o niilismo e a técnica contemporânea, nesse caso, do ponto de vista antropológico. ABSTRACT This article aims to analyze the relationship between Nietzsche's thought and the transhumanist movement, whose theoretical strength built up during the first decades of the new millennium, supported by biotechnology's growing success history. It is intended to provide a critical position to the appropriation that transhumanism is doing of the thought of the "Thus Spoke Zarathustra's" author. The focus of the analysis is the program of self-overcoming of man, which will be analyzed from three central pillars: the idea of nature and freedom; the issue of values; and the issue of the improvement promoted by bio-engineering and its consequences for the destiny of man. It is assumed, therefore, it cannot account for the magnitude and complexity of the thematic, but it may offer clues to address the issue under the bias of continuity between nihilism and the contemporary technique, in this case, from the anthropological point of view. Pretende-se com este artigo, demonstrar como o niilismo é um dos conceitos centrais da obra de Hans Jonas. Para isso, analisaremos como o problema se desdobra em sua obra a partir de três perspectivas complementares: a identificação de um niilismo cósmico, cujo primeira aparição são os movimentos gnósticos da Antiguidade tardia e seus impactos sobre o cristianismo primitivo; um niilismo antropológico derivado dessa posição gnóstica e agravado pela filosofia existencialista; um niilismo ético e tecnológico, que tanto serve para diagnosticar a (...) tecnologia como “vontade de ilimitado poder” quanto para compreender a crise ambiental a partir da crise de valores que marca o Ocidente a partir da modernidade. Com isso, o niilismo, interpretado como velle nihil, ou seja, como vontade de negação e, mais especificamente, de destruição, é uma chave interpretativa para a crise ambiental. Dessa forma, a obra de Jonas pode ser considerada como uma tentativa de evitar que o “mais estranho dos hóspedes” destrua a própria morada. (shrink)

ABSTRACT The aim of this paper is to demonstrate that one of the reasons for Hegel’s failure in consummating the project of “construct the absolute for consciousness” presented in 1801 in his Writing on Difference consisted in the patent mismatch between the negativity to which the determinations of finitude would be submitted and the conception of the absolute still substantially thought. Precisely, what we call here the archaism of substantiality would set the tone of this mismatch that still entailed the (...) heterogeneity between finitude, with its way of ascending to the absolute, and the absolute itself. Among other things, this will become clearer observing the formalism of the intuitionist proposal that Hegel presents at that time, aiming to safeguard the elevation of consciousness without its intrinsic negativity tainting the absolutity of the principle to which it was elevated. The ability to extract patterns from sensory input across time and space is thought to underlie the development and acquisition of language and literacy skills, particularly the subdomains marked by the learning of probabilistic knowledge. Thus, impairments in procedural learning are hypothesized to underlie neurodevelopmental disorders, such as dyslexia and developmental language disorder. In the present meta‐analysis, comprising 2396 participants from 39 independent studies, the continuous relationship between language, literacy, and procedural learning on the Serial Reaction Time task (SRTT) was (...) assessed across children and adults with typical development (TD), dyslexia, and Developmental Language Disorder (DLD). Despite a significant, but very small, relationship between procedural learning and overall language and literacy measures, this pattern was not observed at the group‐level when examining TD, dyslexic, and DLD groups separately. Based on the procedural/declarative model, a positive relationship was expected between procedural learning and language and literacy measures for the typically developing group; however, no such relationship was observed. This was also the case for the disordered groups (ps >.05). Also counter to expectations, the magnitude of the relationship between procedural learning and grammar and phonology did not differ between TD and DLD (ps >.05), nor between the TD and dyslexic group on reading, spelling, and phonology (ps >.05). While lending little support to the procedural/declarative model, we consider that these results may be the consequence of poor psychometric properties of the SRTT as a measure of procedural learning. o presente artigo pretende discutir a proposta de se trabalhar o cinema como componente do ensino de filosofia, a partir das idéias de Gilles Deleuze acerca da arte cinematográfica e de desdobramentos de sua filosofia direcionados a questões pedagógicas.

Gianni Vattimo associa a metafísica com a violência. Pretendemos demonstrar que a tese do pensamento fraco de Gianni Vattimo surge como agente redutor desta violência metafísica. Tal ontologia fraca entende que o cristianismo pós-moderno fundamenta-se na herança da kenosis¸ no esvaziamento-despojamento do Filho de Deus, o que indica a presença de elemento secularizante na raiz mesma do cristianismo. Com isso, o retorno do religioso percebido por Vattimo, não aparece como algo acidental, mas traz consigo a grave responsabilidade de pensar o (...) cristianismo na pós-modernidade não em regime de estrutura forte, verdade estável e absoluta, senão que em termos da caritas-caridade. Este movimento seria, para ele, a realização do tempo do Espírito preconizado pelo abade medieval Joaquim de Fiore. (shrink)

Drawing on feminist and queer epistemologies, this article is concerned with the post-feminist media’s construction of girls’ sexual subjecthood. Broadly defined as a biopolitical ideal, post-feminism is here related to a set of principles of the neoliberal art of government. It will be argued that these principles ethically sustain the exponential mainstreaming of a post-feminist hermeneutics of adolescence and its programme of governmentality. The article also links post-feminism to a particular methodology of subjectification, ultimately locating its hermeneutics of adolescence within (...) the pornographic and pharmacological imperatives of contemporary capitalism. On the empirical level, the analysis explores how techno-scientific discourses and bodily figurations (namely brains and hormones) enter the discursive apparatus of a Portuguese girls’ magazine, giving ideological ground to a distinctive production of adolescent body-subjects. Post-feminist media markets are finally discussed as a significant segment of the capitalist industrialisation of sexual difference that frames the general problematic of this study. (shrink)
